Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about booking, planning, and celebrating your ceremony with Minister Weddings.
Getting Started & Availability
10How do I check if Minister Weddings is available for my date?+
Use Check My Date on our website. Enter your ceremony details and the booking system will check the information needed to begin your request.
How far in advance should we book?+
As soon as you know your date, time, and general location. Popular dates and times can fill first, while some closer dates may still be available.
Do you accept last-minute weddings?+
When the schedule and legal requirements allow it, we may be able to help with short-notice ceremonies. Check your date to start.
Does checking availability reserve my date?+
No. An availability check begins the process; your date is not fully confirmed until the required booking steps are completed.
What happens after my date is available?+
You will continue through the booking steps, including the contract, required signatures, card-on-file/payment steps, and confirmation.
How long is my temporary hold?+
When a temporary hold is issued, it is normally 48 hours while you complete the required booking steps.
What happens if another couple wants the same date?+
Availability is managed around existing ceremonies, travel, and required scheduling buffers. Completing your booking promptly is the best way to secure an available time.
Can you officiate more than one wedding in a day?+
Yes, when travel and timing allow. Minister Weddings protects scheduling time between ceremonies so one wedding does not interfere with another.
How early does the officiant arrive?+
The officiant plans arrival time around the ceremony and venue logistics. For standard scheduling, we account for arriving before the ceremony rather than at the exact start time.
What areas do you serve?+
Minister Weddings serves Chicagoland and surrounding areas. Travel-related charges, when applicable, are calculated from the ceremony location and current booking rules.
Packages & Services
10Which ceremony package is right for us?+
Choose based on how personalized and involved you want the ceremony to be. Our booking experience shows the available package options so you can compare them before confirming.
What is the Full Ceremony?+
The Full package is our most personalized ceremony experience and includes custom ceremony work, your Love Story, and three planning meetings.
What is the Semi-Customizable Ceremony?+
It provides a guided ceremony with customization while excluding the couple Love Story portion included with the Full package.
What is the Simple Ceremony?+
The Simple package is designed for couples who want a streamlined ceremony. It includes one planning meeting and does not require personal vows to be spoken aloud.
Do you offer elopements?+
Yes. Our Elopement option is designed for a smaller, simpler ceremony experience and does not use the Full-package vow-builder workflow.
What is Married in Minutes?+
Married in Minutes is for couples seeking a very short, straightforward ceremony option. Check the current package details during booking for what is included.
Do you perform vow renewals?+
Yes. Vow Renewal is available as a ceremony type. It celebrates your commitment and is separate from obtaining a new marriage license.
Do you offer virtual ceremony options?+
Virtual options may be offered when appropriate. Because legal requirements can depend on the marriage license and circumstances, confirm the current option before relying on a virtual ceremony for a legal marriage.
Do you offer bilingual ceremonies?+
Yes. Ceremonies can be English, Spanish, or bilingual, depending on the selected service and ceremony plan.
Can our ceremony be completely in Spanish?+
Yes. Spanish ceremony service is available.
Pricing, Travel & Add-Ons
10Are travel fees included?+
Your quote calculates travel using the ceremony location and the current travel allowance/rules. Any applicable travel amount is shown as part of your quote.
Do you charge for parking or venue admission?+
If the officiant actually incurs a documented parking or venue-admission cost that was not paid in advance, that actual documented cost may be charged according to the contract.
Are there holiday or special-date fees?+
Some dates or circumstances may carry additional charges. Your quote shows the applicable pricing before you complete the booking.
What if our ceremony runs longer than planned?+
Ceremony overrun can create overtime charges under the current booking terms. Staying close to the agreed ceremony schedule helps avoid conflicts with later commitments.
Can we add a rehearsal?+
Yes, when available. A rehearsal can be requested as an add-on and is subject to scheduling and applicable fees.
Can we request a PA speaker?+
A speaker can be requested where that option is available. Any applicable fee will be shown or confirmed with your booking.
Do you offer a pay-in-full discount?+
When the pay-in-full discount is enabled for your booking, the system applies the eligible discount according to the current pricing rules.
Can discounts be combined?+
Discounts do not automatically stack. The booking system applies discounts according to the current promotion and pricing rules.
Will I see the total before booking?+
Yes. The quote is intended to show your package and applicable charges before you proceed through the final booking steps.
Can pricing change if we change our wedding details?+
Yes. Changes to date, time, location, package, language, rehearsal, speaker, travel, or other selections can affect the quote.
Booking, Contract & Payment
10What happens after we decide to book?+
You complete the booking workflow, including the contract/signatures, required card-on-file step, payment selection, and confirmation.
Do both partners sign the contract?+
Yes. The booking workflow is designed for both partners to complete the required signatures.
Can we review the contract before paying?+
Yes. The contract is part of the booking process before final payment confirmation.
When can we download the signed contract?+
The official completed contract is made available after the required signatures are complete, according to the booking workflow.
What payment methods do you accept?+
Minister Weddings supports card payment through Stripe and Zelle according to the options shown in your booking.
Can we pay a deposit instead of the full amount?+
Where offered, you can choose the available deposit option or pay in full. Your checkout shows the amount due.
Why is a card kept on file?+
The card-on-file step is part of the booking terms and helps support authorized charges described in the contract. Your raw card information is handled by the payment provider, not displayed to staff.
When is our wedding officially confirmed?+
Your wedding is confirmed after the required booking steps are completed and the system records the booking as confirmed.
Can we go back and fix information during booking?+
The booking flow is designed to let couples return to correct information where the step allows it, including through the active booking link during the hold period.
Can we make changes after booking?+
Yes, you can request changes. Availability, pricing, contract terms, and timing may need to be reviewed depending on what changes.
Your Ceremony
10Can we customize our ceremony?+
Yes. The level of customization depends on the package you choose.
Can you tell our Love Story during the ceremony?+
Yes, with the Full package. The Love Story is developed as part of that personalized ceremony experience.
Can we write our own vows?+
Yes, when personal vows are part of your ceremony plan. The Couples Portal can support the planning process for applicable packages.
What if we do not want to say personal vows out loud?+
That is okay. The Simple ceremony is specifically structured so personal vows do not have to be spoken aloud. Other ceremony choices can also be discussed during planning.
Can our ceremony be religious or non-religious?+
Yes. Your ceremony can reflect the tone and traditions you choose within the service you booked.
Can we include cultural or family traditions?+
Yes. Tell us what tradition you want to include so we can determine how it fits your ceremony and timing.
Can children or family members participate?+
Yes, when appropriate for the ceremony. Readings, presentations, and family traditions can be discussed during planning.
Can we include a unity ceremony, reading, or special tradition?+
Yes. Add the request to your ceremony planning information so it can be incorporated appropriately.
How long will our ceremony be?+
Ceremony length depends on the package, language, personal elements, traditions, and what you choose to include. Your ceremony plan will give you a better expectation than a one-size-fits-all time.
Can we review our ceremony before the wedding?+
For ceremony services that include collaborative script work, the planning process provides opportunities to review the appropriate ceremony content before the wedding.
Couples Portal & Planning Meetings
10What is the Couples Portal?+
It is your private wedding workspace for the parts of planning managed through Minister Weddings, including applicable meeting, ceremony, messaging, and wedding information.
When do we receive Couples Portal access?+
Portal access is tied to your confirmed wedding workflow. After booking is completed, use the credentials/instructions provided for your wedding.
What can we do in the Couples Portal?+
Depending on your package and wedding status, you can manage planning information, messages, meeting choices, ceremony details, and other available wedding tasks.
How many planning meetings are included?+
The Full package includes three planning meetings. The Simple package includes one. Packages without included planning meetings do not automatically receive them.
How do we choose a planning meeting time?+
Minister Weddings can offer one to three proposed times. You choose the final available option through the Couples Portal.
Are planning meetings held on Zoom?+
Planning meetings can use Zoom when a Zoom meeting is scheduled. Once Minister Weddings adds the meeting link, it is available through the portal.
Can we request different meeting times?+
Yes. If the proposed times do not work, use the available planning-meeting workflow to request different options.
Can our wedding planner attend a planning meeting?+
Yes. You can choose planner participation for the meeting through the options available in your portal.
Can our planner attend instead of us?+
Yes, when you select Planner Instead for that planning meeting. The planner can then receive the appropriate meeting information through the Planner Portal.
Can we change planner participation later?+
Yes. Participation can be changed before the meeting as allowed by the portal. Choosing Couple Only removes that meeting from the planner view.
Wedding Planner & Communication
10What is the Planner Portal?+
It is the dedicated portal for an approved/linked wedding planner to access the wedding information and coordination features appropriate to their role.
Can our planner see everything in our Couples Portal?+
No. Planner access is limited. Private couple-only information such as private vows or Love Story material is not automatically exposed to the planner.
How does our planner know about a meeting?+
When you choose planner participation for a planning meeting, the system can make the appropriate meeting visible to the planner and send the applicable notification.
Can we message Minister Weddings through the portal?+
Yes. Portal messaging is part of the wedding communication system where enabled for your account.
Can our planner communicate with Minister Weddings?+
Yes. The Planner Portal includes appropriate coordination and communication tools for linked planners.
Will our planner receive our private vows?+
No. Private vows are not intended to be shared with the planner simply because the planner is linked to the wedding.
Will our planner receive our private Love Story answers?+
No. Couple-only Love Story material remains private unless there is a specific reason and authorization to share appropriate information.
Can our planner receive the official contract?+
Planner access can include the signed official contract when that access is part of the linked planner workflow.
What if we no longer want the planner in a meeting?+
Change the participation to Couple Only in the meeting controls. The planner should no longer see that meeting as a participating meeting.
Who should we contact if the portal is not working?+
Contact Minister Weddings using the contact information provided with your booking and include the names on the wedding and a brief description of the issue.
Marriage License & Legal Basics
10Do we need a marriage license for a legal wedding?+
For a legal marriage ceremony, you are responsible for obtaining a valid marriage license from the appropriate issuing authority and following its requirements.
Where do we get our marriage license?+
Obtain it from the county clerk or other issuing authority that applies to the location and circumstances of your marriage. Requirements can vary, so follow the instructions from the office issuing your license.
How soon should we get our marriage license?+
Follow the timing rules given by the office issuing your license. Do not wait until the ceremony to discover that a waiting period, expiration date, or other requirement applies.
Do we need witnesses?+
Witness requirements depend on the law and the license you are using. Follow the instructions from the issuing clerk; Minister Weddings can also review the ceremony-day signing needs shown on your license.
What should we bring on the wedding day?+
Bring the valid marriage license and any documents or identification required by the issuing authority or previously requested for your ceremony.
Who signs the marriage license?+
The required signatures depend on the license form and issuing authority. The officiant completes the officiant portion required for the ceremony.
Who returns the completed marriage license?+
The return process must follow the instructions for the license you obtained. Minister Weddings will handle the officiant responsibilities described in your service/contract, but couples should keep track of their issuing office and requirements.
What if we forget the marriage license?+
Tell the officiant immediately. A legal marriage cannot simply be treated as complete without the required valid license and paperwork. Your contract may also address forgotten-license situations.
When do we receive the official marriage certificate?+
The government office that records the marriage controls when and how certified copies are available. The officiant does not issue the government-certified marriage certificate.
Can Minister Weddings give us a certified copy of our marriage certificate?+
No. Certified government copies come from the appropriate records or clerk office after the marriage is recorded.
Rehearsal & Wedding Day
10Do we need a rehearsal?+
Not every ceremony requires one. A rehearsal can be helpful for larger wedding parties, special processional plans, or ceremonies with several moving parts.
Does the officiant attend the rehearsal?+
The officiant attends when rehearsal service has been requested, scheduled, and confirmed as part of your wedding services.
What happens if our ceremony starts late?+
Contact Minister Weddings as soon as possible. Significant delays can affect the schedule and may result in overtime or other contract provisions, especially when there are later commitments.
Can we change the ceremony location?+
Possibly, but notify Minister Weddings before making the change final. A new location can affect travel, availability, arrival time, and pricing.
What happens if there is severe weather?+
Safety and the circumstances of the event come first. Contact Minister Weddings promptly so the available options can be reviewed under your contract and schedule.
What happens if a natural disaster affects our wedding?+
Contact Minister Weddings as soon as reasonably possible. Natural-disaster rescheduling is handled under the applicable contract terms and the availability of a replacement date.
What if the officiant has an emergency?+
Minister Weddings will communicate with you as quickly as possible and work within the contract and available resources to address an officiant emergency.
Can you perform outdoor ceremonies?+
Yes. Outdoor ceremonies are welcome when the location, access, weather plan, and schedule are workable.
Can you officiate at our home or private location?+
Yes, when the location is appropriate, accessible, and within the confirmed service arrangements.
Will you coordinate with our planner, DJ, or photographer?+
Yes, appropriate wedding-day coordination can occur so key ceremony timing and responsibilities are understood without sharing private couple-only information.
Changes, Cancellation & After the Wedding
10Can we change our ceremony after approving it?+
Request changes as early as possible. Whether a change can be made depends on timing, the package, and how far ceremony preparation has progressed.
Can we change our wedding date?+
A date change must be reviewed for availability and under the rescheduling terms in your contract. The original availability does not guarantee the new date.
What happens if we cancel?+
Cancellation is handled according to the contract and the timing of the cancellation. Review your signed agreement for the terms that apply to your booking.
How do we contact Minister Weddings after booking?+
Use the communication options provided with your confirmed booking, including portal messaging where available.
What happens after our ceremony?+
The officiant completes the required ceremony-related responsibilities, including the applicable marriage-license steps, and your post-wedding communication can continue as needed.
Can we leave a review?+
Absolutely. Minister Weddings appreciates couples sharing their experience after the wedding, and post-wedding communication may include a review request.
Will our Couples Portal disappear immediately after the wedding?+
Your wedding profile is not intended to vanish simply because the ceremony date passed. Access and available post-wedding features can change as the wedding moves into its completed stage.
Can we request copies of our Minister Weddings documents later?+
Contact Minister Weddings with the names and wedding date. Availability depends on the document type and applicable record-retention rules.
Do you keep our wedding information forever?+
Minister Weddings uses retention rules for business records and portal data. Some records may be retained while others may eventually be archived or deleted according to the applicable policy.
